In the Quiet of the Night
My God, the eyes have slept and the stars have set, and You are the Living, the Self-Subsisting, neither slumber nor sleep overtake You. He who does not know You has no excuse before You; he who knows You has no plea against You. My God, here is the place of one who flees to You from himself, who takes refuge in You from his own heart, who weeps to You over what You already know better than he does. My God, in the quiet of this night, when the door of every other shelter has closed, Your door alone remains open. Do not turn me away as I am, turn me as You wish me to be. Wash from me the dust of the day. Soften what the noise of people has hardened. Place in my heart, before sleep, a single quiet remembrance, and let me wake on it.
Imam (ع) does not ask the night to be easy. He asks the night to be a meeting place. The wakefulness becomes a gift, not a burden.
Before sleep, sit upright for one minute. Say 'Subhan Allah' 33 times, slowly, as if rocking a tired child. Then lie down with His name on your tongue.
